Mens Junior Championship
Cometh the hour cometh the men, is the only way we can describe our performance in the Junior Championship quarter final tie with Blackhill on Sunday last. Following on from our mediocre group stages performances, the team were determined to give it their all or go down battling. From the off it was a typical no holds barred affair as both teams fought for possession and scores. Nothing really to separate the teams and after a rollercoaster first half we were once again all square at eight points each. Act two started with a blow to the Seans as Blackhill were awarded a penalty and subsequently converted to the net. Now, three points down, it was all hands to pump, as we traded points and blows, however with twenty minutes on the clock we were once again in arrears and now it was by four. The next eight minutes were monumental in driving the Seans to victory as they brought it level with only one hundred and eighty seconds of normal time to go. Surely, we would be heading for extra time but there would be an additional six minutes to be added and Blackhill had different ideas as they racked up another two points. It was now do or die if we were to progress to a semi final slot, and a super two pointer from Pat Kieran set us on our way. The red mist descended over the lads pushing them to some unbelievable turnovers and a couple of points to top it off which would close out our win and our right of passage to the last four in the competition. To be fair, both teams admirably gave it their all, and on this occasion, we pushed on. However, there won’t be time to rest on our laurels as we will take on Currin on Sunday, in Scotstown at 1.30pm, to see who can grab a final spot. The very best of luck to the Management and Team in their quest for another win.
