U13 Division 4 Champions

Another chapter was written for our Juvenile Memoirs on Saturday last. Our mighty 13’s took on Blackhill in the Division 4 Cup Final in Drumhowan. It’s always an occasion to reach a final but it comes monumental when you win. A lot of hard work had been done by Coaches Frank, Sean , JP and Paraic in the lead up to the day to have the players in tip top form. To be fair they didn’t disappoint and from the off they were in the driving seat. Strong play from the midfield pairing of Conal McNelis and Pauric Prunty gave the forward line sharp shooters of Conor Evans, Fionn Clerkin and Shea Larkin, huge opportunities to score. Which they duly did. Blackhill tried desperately to break down the solid defence of Liam McKeye , Daithi McCormack, Adam Mullen and Ben Morrisroe, between the sticks, but they stood tall and firm and closed off the channels for scores. Along with Ben Mullen, and James McEntee they, time after time, played their way out of defence and set up another raid on the opposition. With all good teams, it’s all about the squad, and when called upon, Daire Ward, Daniel Kerley and Kian Boyd all put their shoulder to the wheel to close out the result. Unavoidably missing on the day, Josh McEntee, had played his part in the preceding games that secured their passage to the final. It has been said many times, that you never forget the first cup you win, and this was certainly the case with this group of players. As the final whistle sounded their elation was palpable as they hugged each other while their siblings and parents done likewise from the boundary. The club would like to congratulate and the thank the players and management on their achievement and to the parents who helped with the celebratory refreshments back at the complex we are most grateful. Hopefully the first of more silverware to come.

Seniors

A Friday night trip to Emyvale last week was a ‘do or die’ affair to make the quarter finals or head south into relegation territory. Victory was the intention and it was almost the outcome. A point after thirty nine seconds for the Seans set down the early marker, however Emyvale had corrected the advantage , with a goal after three minutes. Scores were exchanged in the opening half and although we had rattled the net twice, Emyvale had been more economical with their opportunities. Half time had it all square on the score board. Once again the scores tick tacked with neither side exploding into an unreachable lead in the second period. It was tense and, at times, a nervous affair as both sides tried hard to hold possession and make a break through for the score. This mantra continued as the clock ran down and with neither teams executing the killer punch the score concluded at 2-7 to 1-10. Frustrating for the players and management as the draw pushed us into the depths of the relegation process. We now must take on Blackhill, at home, on Sunday at 1pm. This will not tell the tale of our season but it will test our resolve. Your support is imperative on Sunday to show your appreciation of the immense effort that the lads have done to date.
