Seniors
Doohamlet, were are first callers, at home, in the Intermediate League on Saturday evening last. As hardened campaigners, their presence wasn’t going to be easy and they set the tone quickly with a point in the first minute of play. Once we settled the ship, we competed well, however our guests, hit some long range frees and kept their tally advancing. Our forward pressure showed some fruit as we were awarded a penalty, for what looked like a pull down put no card issued to confirm this. This was duly converted and we were back in the game. A second goal was tagged on before the break but the opposition were still two points in front. The second half became a dogged affair and as scores were exchanged we couldn’t seem to get a head of steam to push on. That said, we were awarded a second penalty for what appeared to be a similar offence. Once again we slotted it home however Doohamlet replied with a brace of points and another goal. The game became untidy and scrappy in the closing stages with a straight red for a Doohamlet players infringement, but they held on for the win by three points. This is tough, uncompromising football, and it is what the Intermediate League is all about. Although no points on the table yet, there are definite signs of improvement for us. Next up is an away trip to Cremartin on the 21st of May.
U15’s
Our Maghercloone game on Thursday had a late change to give us home advantage for our round five league game. Nothing easy here from the off when the visitors rattled the net with their first attack. This was quickly cancelled out as we reciprocated the score at the other end. It was a fast moving display of long range passing and both teams racked up good scores. The Seans did take a foothold and pushed in front on the scoreboard. A four point advantage at the break probably wasn’t enough to manage the wind and the visitors hunger. The second period was all about Maghercloone as they attacked in waves and punished the lads with goals and points. With no answer, we took our first home defeat of the league back to the drawing board. Inniskeen will be our opposition , at home, on Thursday night. Please come out and support our juveniles.
