Reserve Championship
What a night we had on Friday as we hosted Cremartin in the quarter final of the Reserve Championship. This game not only had it all and more but created it’s own little bit of history. More of that later. It was a typical championship encounter with neither side willing to give much away. That said, the visitors did close the first period out one point in front. They continued where they left off for the second half and managed to keep their noses in front until the closing stages. From here the Seans found their feet and confidence to take the game to extra time with a couple of fine scores at the final whistle. The warm evening was exhausting for all the players and another twenty minutes of action would surely decide the outcome. Little did we think that the home side would forge ahead in extra time and gallop five points in front. But there was still life in the visitors for the final period of play, and they pulled out all the stops with a goal and a couple of points to bring proceedings to another stalemate. In a first in the history of the club, our championship dual would be decided from the penalty spot. Five souls from each team would try their skill in a one on one shootout. With goals and misses exchanged it would come down to the last Seans kicker, who dually converted the spot kick to the applause and relief of the crowd. Finally, we had arrived at the result and a semi final spot now beckons for the team. However, the euphoria was somewhat overshadowed by the loss of our Captain, Patrick Treanor, earlier in the game. We wish him well and a speedy recovery from the nasty injury he picked up. So, another chapter has been recorded, as Pairc Sheain Mhic Dhiarmada has now hosted it's inaugural penalty decider. Maybe not the way to determine a winner for the purest, but for entertainment and excitement it surely ticked all the boxes. Congratulations to all the players and management for their effort and the best of luck progressing to the next stage.
