Hugh McElvaney Retires
Now that the dust has settled and all new councilors are in their positions, the Seans club would like to pay a small tribute to one of its members. Hughie McElvaney, who has stepped away from his local government position is a Seans man through and through. In a political career spanning nearly fifty years, he has been a notable inclusion in the Council chamber admirably representing his local area . However, Hughie, has also been a massive advocate of the Club in this time. From sponsoring teams, the Elco Oils juvenile competitions, and numerous events, Hugh has never been shy supporting the Club during the good and bad times. He remains a firm follower of all teams and age groups and is a regular at games, regardless of age or gender. There isn’t many of the players that he doesn’t know or that don’t know him and that is a special connection which has never waned in all his years following the saffron and white. Hugh’s family are also as passionate for their roots and, they to carry the flag for the club with another generation now wearing the colours. McElvaney Waste and Recycling have been extremely loyal to the Sean Mac Diarmada Club and we will always be thankful for that. Hughie may have stepped away from the public eye, but it hasn’t deterred his desire for the Club to do well. We wish him well in his retirement from politics and hope to see him at all the games now he has more time on his hands.

Junior Reserve Championship
Another derby game with Aghabog was the home fixture on Friday night last in the reserve championship quarter final. With a number of troops in sunnier climbs and some injury bound, we once again called upon the service of our old loyal guardsmen. Even if the legs have moved into retirement mode, the footballing brain never switches off. The experience of our more senior men gave the guidance required to our youth contingent and this made for end to end action from the off. Some great moves and scores kept it all square for most of the contest. However, as the clock ticked away, the bodies became tired and the visitors crept into a three point lead and it was advantage with Aghabog. But the introduction of a Larkin full forward would once again would change the complexion of the game. In a move, last seen in Croke Park in 1982, when a Derby man hit the net with a winner so did Damien Larkin or so we thought. The goal brought us into a draw situation, but could we get the winner? Despite the clock in the red our visitors gathered their thoughts and two quick fired points gave them victory. A thoroughly entertaining evening and hard luck to the lads, who gave their all to the cause.
U16’s Shield Final
