Intermediate Relegation
Our first match in this three game relegation series was home to Clones on Sunday. Amidst the torrents of rain, the lads took the game to the visitors with score for score. However, a fortunate rebound gave Clones a goal midway through the half and this ended up as the difference at the break. The continuing dreadful conditions were equally as bad for spectators as players. The game lacked fluency from both sides as the rain conditions championed the art of trying to let the players stay upright. Once again nothing between the teams only the first half goal and had we converted our chances we could have cancelled that out. As it went the goal was all that separated the teams as the referee called a halt to the proceedings. Not the start we needed but we will regroup for our away day to Toome on Saturday at 4.30pm.
Senior Ladies.
The senior ladies took to the field in Emyvale on Friday night last for an encounter with Truagh in the Intermediate Shield Final. It was a tough clash with no quarter given by either side. While Truagh moved the ball quickly from end to end our girls held firm, but it wasn’t long until our goal was breeched, and we were behind. The scores were plentiful for Truagh and we were soon six points in arrears. However, our luck was about to change as Julie Finan found the net on twenty one minutes, and throw in a couple of frees from Chloe McQuillan and we were back in the race. Half time would see the opposition two points to good but all to play for. Regretfully this was a false dawn as we conceded another couple of goals in quick succession and our way back was shutoff before we could catch a breath. A late rally and a penalty weren’t enough, and our goose was cooked. Disappointment and heart ache for the second final for the girls this year and no silverware. Congratulations to them for their unquestionable efforts and the management for their commitment. Maybe next year.
U15’s Championship
Our U15’s bowed out of the championship with defeat to Eire Og on Saturday morning. However victory was not without a fight as they took a substantial lead to half time only to concede early scores in the second period which gave the visitors the required lift. That said there was nothing easy all the way to the end with very fine calls making up the two point difference. The disappointment was evident from all concerned as they left the field with heavy hearts marking the end to the season. We must applaud the boys and their coaches as they had already secured some silverware earlier in the year and hopefully they will move on for next year sharper and wiser.
U11’s
Our 11’s hosted Doohamlet on Saturday evening in their Development League. This was a feisty and hugely entertaining game from the off. Every single skill was on show from our lads as they played like tigers for every ball. Their intensity was equally matched by their opposition, and you couldn’t take your eyes off the action. Well done to both teams on a great game.
Indoor Bowls
Bowls have resumed every Thursday at 8pm. This is a creational game for all ages so feel free to call in and experience the game and maybe consider taking up the sport.
