Intermediate League Relegation Playoffs

Our seniors began their playoff series in Killanny on Tuesday last. Definitely the lions den as far as previous results were concerned but they were confident nevertheless. The game was a tough physical battle from the off, but we stood up well to whatever the opposition had to throw at us. The first half was scrappy and littered with stoppages and frees but Killanny managed to convert their scores and were six points to the good at the break. The second half would see the true hard work and commitment rage to the top as we racked up thirteen points for the half. Grit and determination to a man, we waded into the opposition and pushed it to the wire as the final seconds counted down. But, alas, Killanny managed a score that would bring us to extra time. Our lads were out on their feet but never dropped the intensity, however the home team scraped two unanswered points either side of the extra time and it was enough for a win. It would now be a quick turnaround to face Monaghan Harps in round two for survival in the league.

Our Harps game took place in Scostown on Saturday evening. Following the disappointment of the Killanny game we made a super start and quickly edged in front. Our interplay was quick and crisp and the opposition were in spin for the first half. We took a five point advantage to the break and all eyes were on the final thirty minutes. However a stumbling start wasn’t in the script and the Harps scored a fortuitous goal early on. This spurned them on and as they quickly added another we were now all at sea. Despite our best efforts we couldn’t get a grasp of the play long enough to impact with scores. The eventuality was a second defeat in the playoff and the prospect of relegation now growing. However all good teams must regroup, assess the errors and make good their mistakes after defeats and we will be no different. The championship is now on the horizon and we will face this we even more determination.

Senior Ladies Intermediate League

Well done to the ladies with great home win over Donaghmoyne on Saturday in their opening game of the league. A great way to bounce back from their reserve final disappointment.

U17’s

Our 17’s squad had an away game to Tyholland on Monday night. On the back of their defeat to Aghabog this was a vital game to stay in contention. They started brightly and although letting Tyholland get established, managed to take a three point lead to the second half. The home team quickly resumed with a barrage of scores and we were now on the back foot and two points behind. However, some steady point scoring kept the scoreboard ticking over and we eventually pushed in front. A solid display overall with a five point win and Cremartin visiting on Thursday evening.
