AGM

In a break from tradition, this years Annual General Meeting would have a whole new look. While living in the world of a pandemic, we were forced to adapted and overcome, and this done with supreme innovation. Introducing the “ drive in “ AGM. Our members duly arrived at 2pm and they were ushered into their parking spaces. A steward presented them with their minutes and reports , got them tuned in and the proceedings began. Our outgoing Secretary , Derek McMahon, presented his final report of the year and as we have become accustomed to, he delivered a comprehensive account of our year. The Clubs finances were presented by the Treasurer, Mary Mc Connon. She dealt with all the facts and figures admirably to the satisfaction of the membership and all accounting issues were agreed.

Juvenile Chairperson, Peadar McGuinness provided his synopsis of the underage teams which was delivered by the Secretary. He commended all coaches and teams for their willingness and cooperation in adapting to the strange conditions all year. Memorable cup and shield wins for the U13 and U15 teams respectively where highly praised, with the U13 semi final given particular recognition as one of the best games played all year.

Finally our Chairperson , Sean McElvaney , addressed the members and detailed the issues which had made it an exceptionally difficult year. From zoom calls, to the launching of the new Club App and website, he noted how different the year had been. He commiserated with the Senior Team players and management on their defeat in the Junior Championship final but welcomed the fact that the Management Team had agreed to return in 2021 and give it another go. Sean was keen to thank our sponsors through the year for their support given the lack of fundraising being allowed during the season. He remarked that we lost two notable Gaels during the year, Tony Acheson and Brian Sheridan. Their contribution to the club was well noted and would be missed. Danny Clerkin, speaking from his car, underlined the impact of Brian Sheridan in the Club history and his dedication during the Clubs infancy and on to their major developments. The Chairperson outlined proposed plans for the training field and associated works which would be priority in the Spring and subject to things returning to a new normal.

As there were a number of the 2020 committee not seeking reelection, the Chairperson thanked them for their tireless work during their tenure . Derek Mc Mahon, Michael McElroy, Noel Rice, and Brian McQuaid will all be missed from the executive. New incoming committee members were announced as Fergal Ward ( Secretary) , Michelle Boyle, Karen McKenna, Ryan Connolly and Enda Murphy. They were welcomed and he wished them the very best for the coming year. Sean also announced a new Honorary Member to the Club. Eamon Mulligan has been a stalwart player and club member for many years . He has held numerous committee positions from Secretary to PRO and been a very active person in the club. It was only fitting that his contribution was recognised by the membership.

Finally our Chairperson, who had intended to step down for 2021, conceded that nominations received for the vacancy were not in position to accept the post. Rather than leave the ship without a captain, he agreed to carry on as Chairperson and maintain the continuity during this uncertain time .

Our “new look” meeting drew to a close and we had managed to keep all attendees safe, maintain the social distance and carry out the annual duties of the Committee to the satisfaction and approval of the Membership. A success I believe in anyone’s language.
